ACTIVE CItizens Today
For
Accountability
MISSION STATEMENT
To engage concerned citizens in support of community-based initiatives that inform and educate the public, and promote the values of our American founding documents for the purpose of supporting our Constitution and strengthening our democracy.
Our Initiatives
Civic and Constitutional Literacy
We provide links to reviewed articles and resources on history, civics, the Constitution, civic engagement, and current issues.
We accept and review suggestions from readers to share with others
Civic Engagement
We inform and connect interested members of our community with opportunities to engage in a wide range of civic activities.
Activities include voter registration, writing postcards and letters, canvassing and working on issues or with candidates, and working at elections.
Education Forums
We seek to expand public knowledge and understanding of significant and current civic and political issues through bi-partisan educational forums open to the public.
Our next forum is on the US CONSTITUTION - Yesterday, Today and Tomorrow on September 30, 2026 at George Washington University, Ashburn Campus.
About Us
We are a group of retired professional women in Leesburg - who are actively engaged in our communities through volunteering on many different issues, including political and civic issues that affect our lives, the lives of others in our community and the nation. We all care deeply about the challenges our community, state and nation face - economically, culturally, and politically. We came together in February 2026 to organize our shared interests and efforts in order to have more impact on positive change.
We began with sharing information about opportunities for activism of all types and links to important and trusted sources of news and data. Recent activities include participation in local No Kings protests, voter registration at Rust Library, post card campaigns for get out the vote, volunteering as poll workers on election day. We also keep each other informed of reliable sources of news and information - including podcasts, news articles, books and informative webinars and talks.
We know the importance of being well-informed and accurately informed and seek unbiased straight news reporting along with scholarly researched books to help build our depth of understanding of the foundations of our democracy and our Constitution. We value being well informed before shaping our individual and shared view points.
We feel strongly about the importance of all community members and citizens being well and accurately informed as they exercise their civic right and duty to vote.
This is the foundation for the education forum component of our work. Our plan is conduct these bi-partisan and nonpartisan forums several times a year on different topics of current interest.
